The Story of Stanley St Peters 1824-2001
A Parish Church is not only a place of worship. it acts as the focal point of the community, draws it together and strengthens its sense of continuity with both the past and the future. In December 2001, St. Peter's Church Stanley, closed after serving local people in times of peace and war for nearly 180 years.
This 50 minute video, produced by Outwood Community Video tells the story - much of it in the words of local people - of the part played in their lives by the much loved “Church on the Hill”. It includes an account by the local archivist, John Goodchild, of the founding of the church; describes the disastrous fire of 1911 and its aftermath; and records the closing Sunday service in November 2001, after it had become clear that repairing the fabric would be prohibitively expensive. Finally the video reveals how the story of Christian witness is far from over in Stanley. A new place of worship is dedicated nearby, ready to face the challenge of a new century.
In 1961 an exchange was started between the White Rose Boxing Club Wakefield and Alfeld Boxing Club in Germany. From this exchange came an invitation for a Wakefield swimming club to exchange with S.C. Neptun in Alfeld.
Three members of Kingfisher A.S.C. Harry Banham, Geoffrey Lewty and Nancy Powell were the first organisers of the exchange, then later Fred Siddle, followed by Shirley and Cyril Wilson who lead the exchange for many years with the help of Alice and Eric Woodcock.The exchange is now run by a Committee. The exchange has gone from strength to strength over the years and many lasting friendships have been formed. This video shows some of the activities during the 41st exchange, there is not a lot of swimming, But we did lose the gala after all!.

But the advice he offers as an author, video presenter and Daler-Rowney demonstrator is always much more down to earth. Born in Castleford, landscape has always been his first love. As a child, Batman and Superman didn't figure among his heroes. Instead, he was captivated by the magic and mood of Turner, the romance of Russell Flint and the landscape painting skills of Constable.
He took up watercolours while studying at Lincoln School of Art, and it remains his favourite medium. For Charles Evans, nothing matches the ability of transparent watercolour to capture the haziness of an autumn day, the sinister beauty of a stormy sky or the luminescence of pale morning sunlight slanting across the moors.
Due to his entertaining style and practical advice to beginners. thousands of newcomers to art have discovered the joy of watercolour painting.
This film has been produced by the way of a double celebration for the Royal Society of St George.Not only is the Society celebrating the inauguration of the recently formed Wakefield Branch in the presence of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Dr Ingrid Roscoe and His Worship the Mayor of Wakefield, Metropolitan District Councillor Janet Holmes, but also the formation of the society’s 100th branch worldwide

We all owe a great debt to the young men and women who defended these island’s in time of war, in this video the people of West Yorkshire come together to give their thanks on this 60th anniversary of victory in Europe
The film follows the route of the march from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School to Wakefield Cathedral and ends in Clarence Park at the Operation Telic Medal Parade.

The area around Wakefield in West Yorkshire which is bounded by Morley and Leeds is affectionately known as “The Rhubarb Triangle” where for over a hundred years, Farmers and Smallholders have specialised in the production of forced rhubarb for the early season trade.
At one time the area around Wakefield was the largest producer of rhubarb in the world.

Methodism has played an important part in the hearts and minds of the people of Outwood. This is the story of the three churches Rehoboth, Bourne and St John’s. Sadly only St John’s remains open today and has been re-named Parkside Methodist Church and whenever possible provides inspiration and comfort to people of Outwood
The video ends with the congregation in a optimistic mood, recognizing the need to adapt to new challenges in a changing world, but maintaining those values which have served so well for so long.
This video takes us on a journey and we are using a trek cart as used by the scouts in the early days of scouting.
The 31st Wakefield (St Anne’s) Scout Group was formed on the 15th September 1953 and consisted of a group scout master and 13 scouts.
We begin our journey with a vision of Baden Powell, this is followed by contributions by the Beavers and the cubs. We learn about the Trash Band and in the words of Ben Burman “These aren’t just old cans this is a trash band, we made at camp this year”.

The video contains some thought provoking Songs and Readings and concludes with a song that has been sung around the camp fire by generations of scouts “Bide awhile”.
